A good MLM lead has definite characteristics that you should be able to spot right away. Believe me, I’ve had plenty of experience with terrible leads for my network marketing business, but along the way I’ve learned quite a bit.
So today I want to share with you what you should look for in your leads that will help you recruit the RIGHT prospect into your network marketing business, and hopefully quicken your path to success.
1. Your MLM Lead Must Have A Great Attitude.
Now this one can take several forms. How many of you out there have run across people that are just “so-so” or seem uninterested about things that are going on?
All of us have, but you do NOT want this person in your business. When your MLM lead comes across as having a bad attitude, how do you think their prospect’s will feel when he/she is trying to recruit someone else?
You want people who are excited, fun to be around, and know that they can make a difference. That type of attitude will shine through, and make other prospects naturally gravitate toward them. (people like happy, up-beat people)
2. Make Sure Your Potential Network Marketing Partner Is Personable.
Ok, this one should be a no-brainer. Your MLM lead should be people-oriented. After all, network marketing is a people business. And it’s all about building and growing relationships.
If you recruit someone into your business that doesn’t do well with people, that’s like recruiting a football player that hates football… it just won’t work.
Now I’m not saying only recruit the MLM Leads that are ridiculously out-going, but use your judgment.
3. Your Network Marketing Lead Needs To Be Ambitious.
Unfortunately, 99% of Network Marketers get into this industry because they’re simply looking to “get rich quick”.
Sorry to break your heart, but it doesn’t exist. Now that doesn’t mean network marketing can’t bring you great financial success, it can.
But you must be diligent and ambitious enough to go out and seize your own success. Nothing will be handed to you in this industry, but if you’re ambitious and work for it, and only recruit leads into your mlm business that are the same way, you’re well on you’re way to financial independence.
4. Your Network Marketing Prospect Must Be A Leader
Ok, this one can be kind of confusing. I’m not saying your MLM lead needs to be the President of their company, or regional manager, or anything like that. I’ve met leaders that worked in jobs you would think disqualified them as having leadership qualities…and I’ve also had leads for my MLM that were in positions you would think would require leadership and had NONE.
You see, leadership is about taking action. It’s about taking responsibility for yourself, your circumstances, and your future. If you’re lead portrays that type of attitude, they can be a leader.
Anyone can be a leader, they just have to be willing to rise above the status quo and learn the skills that others are unfit or unwilling to learn.
In other words, you can work with your prospect. They may still be a baby Eagle, but that’s still an eagle. Just avoid the ducks… No matter how much you work with a duck, they’ll never be an eagle.
5. Your Network Marketing Lead Must Be Goal-Oriented
Your MLM lead MUST be goal oriented. And the best way to find that out is to ask them open-ended questions like “where do you see yourself in 5 years… 10 years?”
And if they respond with multi-millionaire, ask them how they plan to get there. People who are goal oriented will give you their plan of action – “well, I’m going to do this, then this, then that, etc. etc.”
People that aren’t goal oriented are going to simply say “I don’t know…” or something like that. The best advice I can give you for this type of lead is to walk away…money doesn’t grow on trees, and 9 times out of 10 this type of prospect will only drag you down and is better off trying to win the lottery or something.
To sum all of this up, here’s a word of caution – follow your gut. Don’t write off one of your leads because you pre-judge their circumstances. One of the guys in my business was homeless living under a bridge in Alaska, and now he’s a multi-millionaire through network marketing. But he had the qualities I mentioned above, and he was coachable. All it took was for him to find the right opportunity to put his qualities to use in.
