MLM Leads are essential to creating success in your business. Obviously you can’t build your network marketing business unless you prospect potential people to add to it (your leads).
Now while most people rush out and hound their friends and family and pretend that they’re all the leads they have for the network marketing business, I’m here to show you a different way.
For a lot of people, entering the cold market of MLM prospecting can be scary, but today I’m going to show you how to contact your mlm leads in such a way that not only do you not deal with the “cold call jitters”, but you also sky-rocket the success of your network marketing business.
So here we go…
1. Know what you’re looking for, and stick to it. Be willing to say “No” to sponsoring your MLM Lead.
Ask yourself, who is my ideal lead? Who is the ideal person I want in my business?
There are 2 reasons for this. The first is so that you can identify who is going to be of worth in your downline, and who isn’t. Sponsoring people who don’t produce for your opportunity is just wasting your time pushing worthless distributor applications through your business…
In other words, unless your new distributor produces, you might as well not have sponsored them. Always remember that it’s better to run with 3 people, than drag 100 to the top. Realizing that will save you tons of wasted effort in the end.
The second reason is so that the person you are recruiting (your lead), knows that you are looking for a particular person, and that you are simply looking to see if they qualify.
This keeps you from coming across desperate, and has your network marketing lead realize that you understand that you’re time is valuable… And you’re not willing to waste it on just anybody.
You should always look for traits like a great attitude, personable, ambitious, a leader, goal oriented, and several others.
Look, your MLM lead may be driving a Taxi still. That’s ok… Do they have the ambition? Do they have the vision? I can tell you from experience that it’s the few leads that I thought would go no where that ended up producing big time for my network marketing business.
So don’t pre-judge. Just look for the proper characteristics, and always be willing to say “NO” to one of your leads if you know that they won’t be of value to your business. (This is hard to do at first, since most of you out there were taught by your upline to sponsor anyone and everyone you can… but trust me, you MUST do it)
2. Let Your Lead Know They Can End The Conversation At Any Time
Not only will this take the pressure off of you to “coax” your lead to stay on the line, but it will relax your prospect because they’ll realize you’re not trying to do anything except hold a simple conversation with them.
My favorite method is to tell your prospect to feel free…
All you say is, “And [Name], feel free to end this call at anytime during our conversation if you feel that this is something that just isn’t right for you. Does that sound fair to you?”
3. Keep The Attention On Your Lead, NOT You Or Your Opportunity
You want your network marketing lead to realize that you are genuinely interested in them, and not just in recruiting them. Ask about their family, what kind of work they do, what their hobbies are, what their goals are (how much money do they want to make?), etc.
There is a great system that you can follow step-by-step over at mlmFormula that can make this process even easier.
4. Make Sure Your Lead Knows You’ll Be Brief
I’ve found that if you start your conversation with “I only need a minute of your time, because I’m not sure if this is going to be something that is right for you or not…” you’ll have much greater success recruiting your MLM lead.
With this approach, you’re taking a lot of pressure off of your prospect. It will help relax them, and they see that you understand that their time is precious. And on top of that, it gives you authority in the conversation because you’re turning it into an interview instead of a blind business pitch…
A lot of Network Marketers will keep their MLM Lead on the phone for 20 or 30 minutes. Big Mistake! Keep to your word, and as you talk to them use questions like “is this making sense to you?”
Believe me, they’ll let you know.
